Boston's Ultimate Speed Trap

Ultimate Speed Trap Posted by Hello

Wow. Where do I start? A 3 MPH sign on Huntington Ave.

First let me say that this photo is a not fake in anyway, no photoshop or anything like that. You can drive (speed) by it yourself. In addition it is a complete sign, no one broke off a part of it. The sign is the beginning of Huntington Ave, if you are going inbound. That intersection where Rt 9, South Huntington, and Huntington all meet.

I think that this is the first speed limit sign for which the mileage is not an increment of 5. Am I right here or what? Have you ever seen a sign for 47 MPH, for example?

I don't know if my car can actually go only 3 MPH. Most likely I can walk more than 3 MPH, as long as I don't have to do it for any length of time that is.

At some point in the not too distant past I remember construction near this location. So maybe the sign got put up for the construction work and someone forgot to take it down. But still, 3 MPH?!

Yup. That's a sign for the T. Though come to think of it, can those old rust buckets really go that much faster than 3 MPH anyway? :)

Ok, I guess that explains it. Although it is confusing that it looks just like a regular speed limit sign. You would think that the people who are driving those trolleys wouldn't need a speed limit sign - I mean they drive the same route all day long. They should be able to remember how fast they are allowed to go at any one point.

Which reminds me, this is the only section of the T in which there is no "platfrom". Which means that you have you are stepping into traffic when you get off. Is it even illegal for drivers to pass the trolley on the right while it is stopped? I know that I have seen it happen, cars passing on the right while people are trying to get off of the trolley.
