Vaccine for testicular cancer

Did you hear about the vaccine for testicular cancer? The most common form of this type of cancer is caused by a virus which is transmitted as a STD (sexually transmitted disease). So if boys are given this vaccine their chance of contracting this virus, and than getting this cancer, is dramatically reduced.

Oh course the best way of avoiding a sexually transmitted virus is to not have sex.

Some parents think that by giving their sons this vaccine it will condone pre-martial sex. So they are not going to get them this shot. They would rather that their sons have a chance of getting cancer instead of being sexually promiscuous.

No, wait.

All of this sounds like something of a mix between bad moralistic story telling and science fiction. Who has ever heard of a vaccine for cancer? And why wouldn't you want your children protected?

If there were really a vaccine for testicular cancer and parents refused to let their sons get this shot they would be thrown into jail for negligence

Sorry, I got those facts mixed up. The vaccine is for cervical cancer, and it isn't science fiction or bad story telling. There is a vaccine, it is named Gardasil. And there are parents who are going to refused to have their daughters vaccinated.

Because it is ok for boys to have sex, but not girls.

Well, yes, you did get your facts mixed up. It's not a vaccine for cancer, but for a virus which frequently leads to cancer. It doesn't protect against all cervical cancers.

A more serious problem, though, is your claim that "If there were really a vaccine for testicular cancer and parents refused to let their sons get this shot they would be thrown into jail for negligence." I have no idea where you get the notion that there is a law that would allow this.

I'm with Gary...

Also, what makes you think this is a gender issue? Seriously. People need to stop making everything about gender, or race, or sexual orientation. Sometimes people AREN'T discriminatory.
